York 2 Mixed Win Again

After an unbeaten season that saw our York 2 mixed doubles team win the championship last year, this evening saw their debut game in the York and District League Division Four. Missing inspirational captain Debbie Vines through injury, Wetherby fielded just 3 of that title winning side as they welcomed Bishopethorpe 2 to Castlegarth . The visitors had achieved promotion last season too although Wetherby had completed the double over them and the home side were in no mood to surrender tonight.

Missing regular partner Ange Bell who is suffering with a potential season ending injury, Mike Connolly was joined by Rachel Butterworth who had been in majestic form for the ladies team at the weekend. The pair secured 22 games in winning two and drawing the other rubber to help the team to an overall 61-47 success.

Mick Abel was paired with Rachel Hill and it proved an inspired combination with the couple winning 25-11 in registering three wins.

Stuart Robinson who has suffered with injury during the off season was partnered alongside Jill Abel and the due achieved two excellent draws in helping Wetherby gain a valuable opening day success.

Captain Vines will be chomping at the bit to return but on this performance may struggle to get back in.

Well done to the team on a fantastic result and good luck in their bid to record consecutive promotions.
