Wetherby 2 bounced back from an opening day loss against Wetherby 1 to open their account for the season when winning 7-5 at Strensall on Sunday.
Played in glorious sunshine and on a perfect morning for tennis the team, once against superbly led by captain Mike Park, played some excellent tennis and dug deep to record a hard fought success.
Mike alongside son Ollie Park were the star pair, and despite losing 7-5 to a strong home number one couple they managed impressive consecutive 10-2 wins in their other two rubbers.
Mike Abel and Mike Connolly also helped themselves to two wins in accumulating 22 game points and despite a tough morning for Luke Green and Steve Crossley, the Wetherby chaps still managed a useful 13 game points even though they were unable to visit the winners enclosure.
A final games scoreline of 60-48 was just reward for a great team effort and gives them hope of mounting a strong challenge at the top of the section.
Back over in Wetherby and the first team were able to select a very strong side for the visit of newly promoted Sheriff Hutton. The team were clinical in dishing out a comprehensive 12-0 thrashing to the new boys and a final games tally of 86-22 showed they will most certainly be challenging for the title this term.
Well done to both sides and we look forward to bringing you news of further success for the pair as the season unfolds.
