The Ladies third team play in Division Three of the Leeds Tennis League. They started the season with an away fixture in Alwoodley led once again by captain Bev Lyn.
Anne Lilleywhite partnered Cathryn Keighley with Bev playing alongside Dawn Steel.
Our girls soon realised that one of the home pairs were much weaker than the other and knew success here was key to victory. The left hander of Lilleywhite complemented Keighley and they made short work in winning 6-0,6-2. The other Alwoodley couple put up sterner resistance but again the Wetherby ladies were very competitive and despite losing 3-6 in the opening set bounced back with a 6-2 victory in the second to secure a draw.
Meanwhile Lyn and Steel duly put the Alwoodley second pair to the sword winning 6-0 and 6-3 but they too found life much tough against couple one. Losing 4-6 in the opener they were leading 5-4 in the second before a floodlight failure brought the evening to a premature end.
However the hard work had been done and Wetherby ran out comfortable 7-1 winners to begin the season in fantastic fashion.
The ladies are hosting Collingham this evening in a local derby and with no love lost this should be a fascinating contest with no quarter given. Good luck to the team tonight and for the rest of their campaign.
