The Ladies third team followed up an opening day win at Alwoodley with back to back success against Collingham and Roundhay last week to go top of the Leeds Tennis League Division Three.
The local derby with Collingham was eagerly awaited but our girls proved far too strong to run out resounding 7-1 winners on the night.
Captain Bev Lyn paired up with Anne Lilleywhite and the duo were in commanding form during both rubbers. They dispatched the Collingham first pair 6-2,6-1 with the minimum of fuss and followed up with an even more convincing 6-1,6-1 score line in their second game to finish with an impressive aggregate of 24-5!!
Cathryn Keighley and Katie Barrett took their opening match 6-3,6-3 and despite losing the opening set in their second match drew level with a 6-2 win to cement the Wetherby victory.
Four days later the team made the trip to North Leeds to face Roundhay. Missing captain Bev Lyn,Anne Lillywhite partnered Rachel Hill who had kindly stepped in. Hill showed her undoubted class from the outset and the pair ran out comfortable winners without even dropping a game to record a 6-0,6-0 win.
They were pushed harder in the second rubber but won 6-1,6-2 for a very impressive aggregate of 24-3!
Ann Jones replaced Katie Barrett and she partnered Cathryn Keighley. The pair were involved in a titanic battle in game one and narrowly lost 7-6,6-3 but bounced back in the next to win 5-7,2-6 to ensure Wetherby ran out winners by 6 games to 2.
