The York 2 mixed team bounced back from consecutive defeats to record a welcome win at David Lloyd 2 last Thursday. Missing Mike and Jill Abel through holiday commitments, captain Debbie Vines drafted in Marc Bickers and Lucy Wright from the Harrogate League One squad.
They had a productive evening with a 7-5 win and 7-5 loss before an unfortunate injury resulted in the home third pair conceding 12-0 so they accrued 24 points.
Regulars Trish Bell and Mike Connolly were their usual efficient best and a 7-5 win followed by a useful 6-6 draw was impressive against tough opponents. They too took a 12-0 walkover to finish on 25 points.
Captain Vines partnered Stewart Robinson and they were the unlucky duo as they played all three rubbers. Despite three defeats they picked up 11 points to ensure the visitors were victorious 60-48.
After promotion last year the team are finding there is a noticeable step up in class but looking at the early table, apart from leaders York 4 who are unbeaten, there is a group of four teams in the chasing pack including Wetherby who will feel they remain well in the hunt.
The bit of luck in picking up 24 unanswered points may just be the catalyst to reignite their season and they entertain struggling Stillington on Tuesday where they will be favourites to keep up the pressure on the teams at the summit.
