The Wetherby men’ s second team produced their best result of the season on Sunday when thrashing bottom club Sheriff Hutton 12-0 at Castlegarth.
Following on from last week’s easy win over Cliffe the team have climbed into mid table and hopefully any lingering relegation worries can be firmly quashed.
Regular father and son combination, Mike and Olli Park, maintained their extremely useful form together with three comprehensive wins and an impressive 26 points on the morning.
However despite that superb effort they were just pipped for top points scorers by Mike Abel and Mike Connolly whose powerful and energetic play proved far too good for the beleaguered visitors. The two Mikes finished a point better than the Parks with 27.
Not to be outdone and to complete a very good team effort, Marc Bickers and Josh Bayliss teamed up and secured 25 points. Bickers did extremely well as he played with bad neck pain throughout but ably assisted by the inform Bayliss, the duo produced some high quality tennis to put the visitors firmly to the sword.
So a comfortable mornings work and a final winning margin of 78-30 was richly deserved.
Well done to all today.
The Men’s first team maintained their one hundred percent record with a 8.5 v 3.5 win at Rufforth. At the half way point of the campaign they continue to stretch their lead and will hopefully continue that pace at the summit to clinch the title.
Next week is the return game of the Wetherby Derby with the second team looking to avenge a 9.5 v 2.5 opening day defeat.
