We last checked in with the team in late June after a convincing 8-0 win over Alwoodley. Their next match was against Roundhay at home when once again they ran out 8-0 winners.

Captain Bev Lyn partnered Katie Barrett and the duo managed to win 25- 8 in winning their 4 sets. Ann Jones and Cathryn Keighley teamed up and were also successful in all sets played winning 25-11.

Smiling in the sun after victory were Ann Jones, Cathryn Keighley, captain Bev Lyn and Katie Barrett.

The following week a strong Whitkirk team arrived at Castlegarth who were also pushing for promotion. The teams had shared the points in a 4-4 draw earlier in the season but this time the visitors were to inflict Wetherby’s first defeat of the campaign. Dawn Steel came in to replace Cathryn Keighley alongside Ann Jones but the duo struggled and lost all four sets.Lyn and Barrett managed two draws but that was not enough to avoid a 2-6 loss.

Undeterred the team travelled to third placed Almscliffe next looking to bounce back quickly with victory. Lyn and Barrett continued their productive partnership and managed a draw from their opening rubber. They turned on the style to win the second game 1-6,4-6 to secure another win and finish with three points. Anne Lillywhite returned from a holiday in Cornwall to partner Ann Jones and the pair were in tremendous form. Winning all four sets by an aggregate of 8-24 they ensured that Wetherby had not only won promotion but were crowned champions after a convincing 1-7 success.

So with one game to play at Collingham, congratulations to everyone who has represented the third team this year . It has been a tremendous season and they can look forward to the challenge of Division Two next year.
