The Wetherby ladies second team had some tremendous news this evening when confirmation filtered through that nearest rivals Copmanthorpe had blown their chance of joining Wistow in Division Two of the Fulford Ladies Invitation League next term . In their penultimate game our ladies had narrowly lost at home to Copmanthorpe 52-56 and thought their own promotion hopes lay in tatters. They picked themselves up to win comfortably at Appleton Roebuck 43-65 but have waited with bated breath for news of Copmanthorpe who travelled to Knaresborough. Boro are no mugs and have beaten champions Wistow at home this season and ultimately did Wetherby a hugh favour when running out winners, ironically by the same 65-43 score line.
So the ladies can after all crack open the champagne to toast a well deserved promotion which is just reward for an excellent season of hard work and devotion to the course.
Captain Rachel Butterworth has been superb both on and off the field and was supported by Jill Abel, Trish Bell, Louise Williams, Marise Richfield, Debbie Vines, Fiona Chantrey and Janine Smith who stepped in on 10 occasions to fill in for the injured Angie Bell. Emma Abel made two late appearances also when helping the team to crucial victories.
Well done to everyone who contributed and enjoy the celebrations.
