Sunday September 4 saw the annual Mary Middleton Mixed Doubles Handicap Tournament held at the Terrace Lawn Tennis Club in Boston Spa. The weather gods were smiling as the afternoon kept dry and with the sun often shining it really was a splendid occasion. Hosted by Delia and Ian wells who put on both a tremendous competition and a fabulous afternoon tea, there was a good number of players representing the Wetherby club. A series of group games were played before the main final saw Wetherby chairman Steve Jones and his partner Katie Draper from Starbeck face Dee Nolan and Wetherby men’s first team captain Roger Fawcus. In a close affair Nolan and Fawcus ran out narrow 4-3 winners to lift the trophy.
From left to right – Janine Smith, Ian Teasdale with partner Dawn Steel and Ann Jones who partnered Mike Triffitt.
Helen and Stewart Robinson won their group and are seen here showing off their tans!
Janine Smith teamed up with Gary Saunders from Starbeck and this big hitting duo enjoyed themselves on the grass surface.
Dee Nolan and Roger Fawcus seen above before the final where they beat Katie Draper and Steve Jones 4-3.
Last but not least the real stars of the show were Ian and Delia Wells who organised a fantastic afternoon of tennis and tea to make the event a tremendous success.
