The End of Season Tournament for the Mark Jackson Memorial Trophy was played this afternoon. Twenty players took part on a glorious sunny autumn afternoon when shorts and sunglasses were the order of the day.
The format was four rounds of mixed doubles with pairs playing a best of four match with each person serving before swopping partners to play a further best of four. So in theory any one player could achieve 8 points maximum per round and 32 points over the whole event
As there was no time limit players could rest assured that everyone played the same amount of games which was a fairer outcome.
Following the conclusion Ann Jones, looking somewhat surprised, was crowned ladies champion with Mike Triffitt, who finished runner up behind Peter Baldwin last year, going one better and claiming the men’s title.
A big thanks to Rachel Butterworth for organising the event and to her able assistant Ellie Triffitt who collated all the scores. There is no truth in the rumour she added a few more points on for her Dad!!!!
It was a good day for the Triffitts with Bradley playing as the only junior and the 12 year old enjoyed his afternoon and helped Jones to vital points during their 2-2 draw during the final round.
Well done to all todays competitors who at the very least were able to enjoy some lovely weather.
