Brian Thomas and Dee Nolan Take Titles

Another lovely sunny Sunday with a gentle warm breeze greeted members participating in the monthly tournament played at Castlegarth this afternoon. Although I was unable to attend due to work commitments, I know that might surprise a few ha ha, I have it on good authority that there was some excellent tennis on show.

It was good to see Anne Lillywhite making a quick return after a nasty injury last Sunday threatened to rule her out of action for some time. She enjoyed a good workout and will access the injury ahead of the Wetherby B mixed doubles match on Tuesday away at Burton Leonard. Roger Grigg’s presence is always appreciated and he once again was entertaining both on and off the court. Showing some effective net play to back up a decent serve he was prominent throughout challenging the leaders. Helen Robinson, fresh from helping the ladies first team to successive league wins and the early pacesetters in the first division, was dynamic and was to quote, spinning more than a tumble dryer!. She too pressed the leaders and finished in the places.

Chairman Steve Jones was also prominent and took runners up honours in the men’s but victory went to one of our long serving and well respected members when Brian Thomas recorded 14 points in lifting the trophy, well a box of Thornton chocolates actually!. Whilst Steve was left deflated in second, partner Dee Nolan was able to secure first place in the ladies also recording 14 points and some more Thornton’s. Well done to all for contributing to the afternoon and congratulations to both winners alongside organiser Trish Bell who once again was master of ceremonies.

Next Sunday is the Great British Tennis weekend open day hosted by Angela Crossley and Jo Coverdale and off the court a date for the diaries is Saturday May 27th when Charlotte Todd and Steve Jones host a Mexican evening in the clubhouse. Hope to see many of you at both events.
