LTA President Martin Corrie Visits Wetherby Tennis Club

Wetherby tennis club were delighted to welcome the LTA president Martin Corrie and his wife Janet Corrie to the club this morning and both spoke passionately about their future plans and hopes for tennis nationwide. Wetherby chairman Steve Jones explained how the club has responded to the 2015 Boxing day floods and how so many of us have helped restore the club and courts to their former glories. With the financial aid via a number of grants our works are still ongoing and the current riverbank erosion scheme is the latest project to be undertaken . Head coach Angela Crossley outlined her coaching operation and the many schemes, courses and holiday camps she and her team run. Angela is a keen supporter of tennis in Wetherby and has made a great contribution at the club in a number of areas.

We were also pleased to welcome Yorkshire LTA chairman John Crowther and committee member Don Stewart who both explained how they are helping clubs in the community and Wetherby continue to be grateful to both for their help and support.

Unfortunately the poor weather and keen frost didn’t allow for a number of social matches arranged to be played. However acknowledging the tremendous recent work gone into improving the club was uplifting and with good ideas for further plans and improvements the future is certainly a bright one for Wetherby Tennis club.

Thanks again to Martin and Janet for taking time out from their busy schedule to meet with Wetherby members this morning and good luck with your hopes for the future of tennis in the UK.
