The Bengal Lounge in Wetherby was awash with Wetherby tennis club members on friday as the Men’s and Ladies second team representatives gathered for their end of season social evening. The ladies had battled away successfully in the Fulford Ladies League Division Two and preserved their status by finishing a point above relegated Pocklington.
From left to right Marise Richfield, Rachel Butterworth, captain Fiona Chantrey, Jill Abel, Judith Crossley, Ginny Hinds, Louise Williams, Debbie Vines and Trish Bell all celebrating after a great meal with the wine certainly flowing. Angie Bell and Janine Smith were also in attendance this evening.
Peter Baldwin put into words via this superb poem the season the ladies had enjoyed together.
The men suffered last day heartache in York Division Four however as they were demoted after finishing an agonising one point adrift of Copmanthorpe and with that difference 74-73 it was a bitter pill to swallow. Captain Mike Park, who was absent this evening with illness, was one of many stars who found themselves side lined with injury throughout the campaign but the chaps were still smiling tonight and already looking forward to a promotion push next term.
From left to right Marc Bickers, Ollie Boyes Park, Mike Connolly, Doug Harrison, Greg Vince, Barry Johnson, Nick Lumb, Mike Abel and Steve Crossley still in good spirits!
