Wetherby A & B Celebrate Titles At Awards Ceremony

The Annual Harrogate and District awards took place last night at the Harrogate Golf Club and there was a strong contingent from Wetherby tennis club in attendance. Wetherby B led by captain Tony Cutler just held off the late challenge from Harlow to take the Division 6 crown. Bradley Triffitt and Katie Barrett played influential roles and were both there to accept the trophy and medals. Brad had finished the campaign as the leading player in the whole division whilst Anne Lillywhite finished leading lady with Tony and Katie in third and fourth respectively as Wetherby really dominated the player statistics. Special mentions to Ann Jones, Lindsay Edgar and Judith Crossley who all helped to secure the title and thanks to all who represented the team this year.

Barry Johnson was the proud captain of Wetherby A who with fourteen straight wins and a one hundred percent record had won division five by an impressive nine point margin ahead of Thirsk. Richard Franks and Fiona Chantrey were the stars of the show with an incredible thirty three sets and zero losses. They finished the season joint top of the player standings with Mike Triffitt, Christina Plant, Louise Beasley and Barry Johnson filling the next positions. Kevin Duckenfield came in eighth whilst thanks also go to Dawn Steel who was a regular in the team. Its testament to the consistency that those eight managed to play in the majority of the games but thanks to those who filled in to help out when needed .
