Wetherby Celebrate Title Success

It was a great night of celebration for Wetherby tennis club members at the Bengal Lounge on Friday evening as they celebrated four divisional crowns no less!.

The all-conquering  Wetherby A mixed team had secured Harrogate mixed division five after a superb season in which they won all fourteen matches.

Congratultaions to Fiona Chantrey, Kevin Duckenfield, Louise Beasley, captain Barry Johnson, Mike Triffitt, Christina Plant and Richard Franks above with the absent Dawn Steel all playing crucial roles in their amazing campaign.

Wetherby B managed to win Harrogate mixed league division six after just holding on from pre season favourites Harlow in thrilling style. Tom Harrington, Lindsay Edgar, captain Tony Cutler, Bradley Triffitt, Anne Lillywhite and Katie Barrett played significant roles whilst thanks to missing squad members Ann Jones, Judith Crossley and Mark Freeman who were absent tonight.

The Leeds men’s first team made it two promotions in three seasons after they beat Wakefield to the division five crown. Kevin Duckenfield, Bradley Triffitt. Barry Johnson, captain Mike Triffitt and Richard Franks all helped along with Ollie Newsome who was missing this evening. A tremendous achievement in a tough section indeed.

The ladies Leeds first team ran away with division three easily lifting the trophy. Katie Barrett and Anne Lillywhite had excellent campaigns and they are seen above proudly showing off the silverware. Captain Bev Lyn along with Ann Jones , Mary Fidler and Cathryn Keighley were the mainstay of the team. A very big well done and good luck next year ladies.

A special mention and huge thanks to all the additional players who represented these four outfits. It really is very much appreciated and they all helped in making this a summer to remember.
